10:03 PM - Health Measure- Sore Throat 2 (Speedy Recovey Tips)
Here is another article!
If you think that your sore throat is caused by a virus, as most sore throats are, antibiotics won't help -- all you can do is make yourself feel more comfortable while your body fights off the illness. Here are some pediatrician-tested soothers.
• Run a vaporizer or a cool-mist humidifier in your bedroom to keep mucous membranes in the respiratory tract well-hydrated. A dried-out throat adds to the pain, says Alan Levine, D.O., an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
• Drink lots of fluids. Water, juices, ginger ale, tepid tea with honey, even Popsicles can lubricate a dry throat and prevent dehydration. Cool liquids
usually feel better than warm ones, although if you have a stuffy nose, warm soup may help clear it up.
• Use pain relievers. Acetaminophen and ibuprofen can relieve pain and reduce fever. Some doctors also recommend throat sprays, such as Vicks Chloraseptic. Consult your pediatrician to see what's right to use.
• Gargle with salt water...Young adults (Older Children)can gargle with a solution of one teaspoon of salt dissolved in half a cup of warm water every three to four hours. "The salt will dehydrate the germs and reduce their concentration," says John B. Allred, Ph.D., a professor of nutrition at Ohio State University, in Columbus. The salt-water solution will also help pull excess moisture out of the throat tissue, reducing inflammation.
• Get cough drops. Cough drops and sore-throat lozenges help keep your throat moist -- and kids love how they taste. Look for cough-drop lollipops if you've got a toddler with a sore throat.
• Don't talk. Talking can irritate the throat so let your voice rest

9:48 PM - Health Measure - Sore Throat
hey guys,
hope this help alot..I know this got nothing to do with food but more into health instead. The truth is,I am having a terrible sore throat so when to the web to look for remedies.I stop by here to post articles about sore throat!so hopefully you guys find it useful when you are having sore throat.Hope this help you guys out there..Here is everything about sore throat(it is killing me right now)
A sore throat is caused by inflammation at the back of the throat. The proper medical term is pharyngitis. Most sore throats are caused by a bacterial or viral infection, and can be the first sign of a cold or flu starting. The majority of sore throats are caused by viruses which are spread by coughing, sneezing, kissing and sharing cups and utensils with someone who has the illness. Bacterial causes of sore throats are also contagious.
The tonsils are thought to be part of the first line of the body's defence against potentially harmful germs. Bacteria or viruses enter the mouth or nose and are "picked up" in the tonsils or adenoids, and infection here can cause them to swell. Tonsillitis is an infection mainly in the tonsils which are areas of spongy tissue on the side of the back of the throat.
The cause:
Bacterial infection
Tonsillitis
Quinsy (peritonsillar abscess)
Other possible causes:
Laryngitis (losing your voice or croaky voice)
Diphtheria (now a rare disease thanks to immunisation)
Measles
Breathing through the mouth can cause the throat to dry and become painful
Draining from the sinuses can cause throat irritation
In some cases a sore throat could be a sign of throat cancer (usually in smokers) or AIDS (unusual infections or severe thrush/candida)
What are the symptoms?
The symptoms for a sore throat caused by both bacterial and viral causes are the same; they include pain with swallowing, red throat, swollen tonsils, swollen neck glands, pus covering the throat, coughing, and possibly a fever.Patients may also suffer from a headache, stomach ache, and their voice may become hoarse. They may experience nausea and vomiting if they have the flu or another illness. Most people's throats will begin to feel better within three to five days after the start of the illness.
What can be done?
Sore throats caused by a virus do not respond to antibiotics but there are several measures that can be taken to help reduce the discomfort:
Gargle with a cup of warm water and 1/2 a teaspoon of salt
Suck throat lozenges or use throat sprays
Use a pain reliever such as paracetamol every four hours
Drink plenty of water, soft drinks or milkshakes (water or electrolyte solutions are best if the patient is vomiting)
Eat soft foods such as ice cream, soups and mashed vegetables
Avoid smoking because this can cause further throat irritation

9:48 PM - How To Prepare Avocados
Here is how to do it... Remove the stem from the fruit. Using a sharp knife, halve the fruit. Turn the avocado on the blade as you slice. Twist the avocado halves and pull apart.
Using the back end of the knife blade, lightly tap the seed to imbed the knife. Give the blade a gentle twist and remove seed. To dislodge seed from knife, gently push on seed with thumb and forefinger.
To remove skin make an incision down the center of the avocado, just cutting through the skin. Peel back skin.
It is easy to cut an avocado into thin, attractive slices. Simply use the front edge of a sharp knife and make straight downward cuts at 1/4" intervals.
Place on serving dish and press slices lightly with hand or knife blade to create a fan.

6:21 AM - How To Ripen Avocados And How To Store Them!
Here is a great infos about avocados!!
Store unripe avocados in a fruit bowl on the kitchen counter. Avocados are also easy to ripen. Place them in a paper bag with an apple for 2 to 3 days at room temperature. When they're dark purple or black in color and yield to gentle pressure, they're ready to eat!
* Wash, then cut the avocado lengthwise around the seed.
* Twist the halves in opposite directions to separate.
* Slip a spoon between the seed and the fruit and work the seed out.
* Slip a spoon between the skin and fruit and scoop away from the peel.
When avocados are ripe, they can be stored in a refrigerator or freezer for later use as a spread for sandwiches or for a delicious dip!
* Mash the remaining fruit in a covered storage container.
* Add 1/2 teaspoon lemon or lime juice per 1/2 mashed avocado to prevent discoloration and enhance flavor.
* Lay plastic wrap directly on the surface of the mixture before covering. Refrigerate up to two days.
* Label container and use within two months if freezing. Season before use.

5:44 AM - Avocado's Health Benefit Part 2
Here is more on Avocado's health benefits. Info might repeat but there is abit of additional here and there..Hope you guys find this useful
Avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol. In one study of people with moderately high cholesterol levels, individuals who ate a diet high in avocados showed clear health improvements. After seven days on the diet that included avocados, they had significant decreases in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, along with an 11% increase in health promoting HDL cholesterol.
Avocados are a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure. Adequate intake of potassium can help to guard against circulatory diseases, like high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke. In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Association has authorized a health claim that states: "Diets containing foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke." One cup of avocado has 23% of the Daily Value for folate, a nutrient important for heart health. To determine the relationship between folate intake and heart disease, researchers followed over 80,000 women for 14 years using dietary questionnaires. They found that women who had higher intakes of dietary folate had a 55% lower risk of having heart attacks or fatal heart disease. Another study showed that individuals who consume folate-rich diets have a much lower risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke than those who do not consume as much of this vital nutrient.

5:39 AM - Avocado's Description
Avocado is known for its high quantity in fat(good fat) so one of its nickname is butter pear.Another name of Avocado is known as Alligator Pear, reflecting its shape and the leather-like appearance of its skin. Avocado is derived from the Aztec work “ahuacalt”.
Avocados are the fruit from the Persea Americana, a tall evergreen tree that can grow up to 65 feet in height. There are dozens of varieties of avocadoes, which fall into three main categories--Mexican, Guatemalean, and West Indian--which differ in their size, appearance, quality and susceptibility to cold. The most popular type of avocado in the United States is the Haas variety, which has rugged, pebbly brown-black skin. Another common type of avocado is the Fuerte, which is larger than the Haas and has smooth, dark green skin and a more defined pear shape.
Avocados vary in weight from 8 ounces to 3 pounds depending upon the variety. The edible portion of the avocado is its yellow-green flesh, which has a luscious, buttery consistency and a subtle nutty flavor. The skin and pit are inedible.

6:47 AM - Avacado's Facts
Although technically a fruit, most people think of and prepare avocados as a vegetable.
To test an avocado for ripeness, gently squeeze it. It should yield slightly to gentle pressure.
Use a small sharp knife to score the avocado from top to bottom. Gently pull apart the two halves and pop out the plum-sized pit with a spoon.
Rub the cut surface with lemon or lime juice to prevent discoloration.
Scrape out the flesh with a metal spoon -- a serrated-edge grapefruit spoon works well.

6:19 AM - Avocado's Health Benefit
Health Benefits
Recently avocados have been recognized as a good source of two beneficial compounds: beta-sitosterol and glutathione. Beta-sitosterol is a widely prescribed anti-cholesterol drug that interferes with cholesterol absorption, thus promoting lower cholesterol levels. Laboratory analysis has shown that avocados contain 76 mg of beta-sitosterol per 100 g of raw, edible fruit. This is four times the amount found in oranges that had previously been cited as the richest fruit source of beta-sitosterol.
Glutathione is made up of three amino acids, glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine that function as antioxidants. Studies have revealed that avocados contain 17.7 mg of glutathione per 100 g of raw edible fruit. This is more than three times the amount in any other fruit. Studies have revealed a strong correlation between increased glutathione intake and decreased risk of oral and pharyngeal cancer. The decreased risk only occurred when the glutathione came from raw fruits and vegetables.
An article in the January 2001 issue of Prevention discusses the benefits of avocados for both skin and hair. Mashing an avocado and rubbing it into your hair for five minutes after washing will add luster to your hair. Avocado oil can be applied to the skin to relieve itchy, red, or irritated areas caused by eczema or dermatitis.
In South Africa, an avocado mask made of mashed avocados, honey, and lime juice is applied to the face as a moisturizing treatment to counteract the drying effects of the hot sun.
